Kids paid teacher cash to skip gym class

A gym teacher at a Florida middle school may have found an unusual way to supplement his income. Officials in Pensacola said he let kids skip his class if they paid him $1 a day.

Authorities said Terence Braxton took the payments between September and December, and that he may have collected thousands of dollars. Escambia County School District spokesman Ronnie Arnold said the principal of Ward Middle School learned of the scheme from a parent and began an investigation in December.

The principal then contacted authorities and placed Braxton on administrative leave. Braxton then resigned. Braxton was being sought on bribery charges. He turned himself in Thursday. Those charges accuse him of taking about $230 from a half dozen students.

But a sheriff's spokesman said his take from sixth- to eighth-grade boys and girls was probably much greater.

Detectives had been looking for Braxton after he apparently left the area. After his resignation, Braxton taught some classes as a substitute teacher at the Atmore School District in Alabama.

Win-win situation. Kids get to skip class, he gets paid. Not necessarily the typical lesson you learn at school. Nevertheless, these kids learned about life- real life. Money still makes the world go 'round. Kinda sad what money can make you 'stoop' down to. Article here.
