Teens throw donuts at cops, then crash

Five teenagers were arrested early Sunday and charged with throwing doughnuts at a state trooper and his car, fleeing the scene and eventually backing into two troopers with their Jeep.

Trooper Patrick Mulcahy was driving north on Cider Mill Road at 12:45 a.m. Sunday when he and his car were pelted with doughnuts. Mulcahy and Trooper James O'Donnell, who was in a second car with a police canine, stopped and chased the five teens through the woods to their Jeep, which was parked in the lot behind town hall, said Lt. Alaric Fox, commander of Troop C in Tolland.

The driver backed the Jeep out and hit both troopers, police said. The four teens in the Jeep were arrested. The fifth was found later that morning, police said. All were released to their parents that morning.

Jeffrey Hoffelder, 18, of Tolland, a passenger in the Jeep, was charged with criminal trespass, criminal mischief, interfering with police and throwing objects at a moving vehicle. His bail was set at $1,500. The other four are juveniles.

O'Donnell sustained a sprained knee and was treated at Rockville General Hospital and released, Fox said. Mulcahy had minor injuries. Article here.

hi. i'm pretty sure i'm related to one of these guys, maybe two of them -- they're my cousins, and my mom doesn't talk to their mom anymore, but they live right in this neighborhood, they're idiots, and my uncle clammed up when my mom brought it up, like he knew something. this is the stupidest god damned thing i've ever heard, and i would be ashamed if this weren't so effing funny.

Well Henry, I don't know what you were like when you were 18 - or will be when you are 18 - but throwing donuts at a car (that you obviously didn't know was a police car) does not seem like such a stupid or terrible thing to me. Maybe that is because the only person's name given in the article was my son. I say "was" because he committed suicide four months later. (It did not have anything to do with being arrested for this.) The thing you never saw in the papers was that all charges were eventually dropped. Since this is such old news, you unfortunately will probably never see this. But if you, or anyone else does, please see a tribute one of his friends put on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIy42fMhgwY
