6-year-old boy drives grandmother's car to Applebees

A hungry 6-year-old decided he wanted to eat at Applebee's on Tuesday morning, so he grabbed his grandmother's car keys and headed out for a bite.

He backed her car about 75 feet before he slammed into a utility junction box. The boy's adventure began when he decided he was hungry, O'Connell said. Knowing he still needed a booster seat, he took one from the back seat of his grandmother's car and put it in the driver's seat.

"He proceeded to start the car and started backing up," said O'Connell, who doesn't know if, or how, the boy reached the accelerator. "He went backward about 47 feet, hit the curb then went backward another 29 feet. That's when he struck the power box for Xcel Energy and Qwest Communications." No one was injured, but dozens of townhomes near 120th Avenue and Greenway Drive lost phone service and power for hours. » Article here
