Woman sold her baby for $25,000

A woman faces charges that she tried to sell her newborn to an undercover police officer for $25,000. Yue Fan Chau, 36, of Flushing, Queens, was arrested Friday after she met the undercover detective in front of New York Downtown Hospital.

Prosecutors said that's where the officer gave Chau a $20,000 check and $5,000 in cash. Chau told detectives that her boyfriend had returned to China, and she sold the baby because she was destitute and needed money.

Chau was charged with tampering with public records, falsifying business records, child abandonment and endangering the welfare of a child. If convicted, she faces up to seven years in prison. » Article here
