What to do if your Cell Phone gets wet

Ever dropped your cell phone in the sink, or even worse the toilet? Did you ever leave it in your pocket and run it through the washer? It usually means you have to replace your phone, but sometimes if you're fast you can save the phone.

1. Remove the Battery. This is one of the most important steps. Cutting power to your phone is a crucial first step in saving it.

2. Dry your Phone. Use a towel or a paper towel to remove as much of the water as possible.

3. Soak in Alcohol. Alcohol is hygroscopic (attracts water), it will dissolve all the water in the phone, which will then pour out of the phone with the alcohol. Any remaining alcohol will evaporate. Alcohol will not harm your phone but may mess up glue (from stickers and the like). Use 95% alcohol, not the regular 70% rubbing type.

4. Allow the phone to dry. Don't try putting the battery back on to see if it works as this would risk damaging the phone with a short circuit. Leaving your phone in a bowl of dry rice will help to expedite moisture evaporation.

5. Heat your Phone. Apply enough heat to your phone to cause the water to evaporate without waterlogging your digital screen.

*The best way to dry out your phone is to place it in front of an air conditioner or air conditioning vent. Cold air won't damage your phone (hot air can warp or in extreme cases even melt plastic), and air from an air conditioner is dry, and so will evaporate water faster than you might think (which is why a car air conditioner will de-mist the windshield so effectively, even if the engine hasn't warmed up yet).

*Other methods that work:

-Use a hairdryer set on warm; it won't melt your head so your phone should be safe.
-Use a food dehydrator.
-Use the oven on the warm setting (make sure to take out the battery).

6. Test your Phone. After you have waited 3 days, make sure everything is clean and dry looking and re-attach the battery to the phone and see if it works. If your phone does not work repeat step 4. If it still won't work, try taking your cell phone to an authorized dealer. Sometimes they can fix it.

Other Tips:
*Don't put the battery on for at least 3 days or longer if your digital screen is foggy.

*Place a piece of satin finish scotch tape over your water damage sticker before you drop your cell phone in the water to prevent the water damage sticker from voiding your warranty. This sticker can usually be found under your battery. It's a small round white sticker, possibly with dots on it. If this sticker gets wet it changes color and your phone is marked for water damage. Depressed dude puts naked pictures on cars?

An Alabama man has been ordered to serve 60 days in jail and placed on two years' probation for putting photographs of his genitalia on cars driven by women in Menomonee Falls.

Jeffrey J. Hein, 41, was sentenced Monday by Waukesha County Circuit Judge Kathryn Foster on three counts of misdemeanor disorderly conduct. He pleaded no contest to the charges, which accuse him of putting photos on cars parked outside department stores.

Defense attorney Patrick C. Brennan said at the hearing Monday that his client got involved in the activity at a time when he was depressed about three deaths in his family and the failure of his marriage. Article here.

Teen gets her boob pierced, infection rots it away

A teenager who decided to get her breasts pierced for her 18th birthday faces reconstructive surgery after a flesh-destroying infection forced doctors to remove her left breast.

Stephanie Edington of Crawfordsville, who had the piercings done at Neon Novelty as "a spontaneous thing", experienced redness and tenderness in the affected area, along with some leakage, a few weeks afterwards.

She contacted the person who did the piercings, who suggested she wash the area with soap and water. However the pain worsened, and she was taken to the emergency room at St Clare Medical Centre in Indianapolis with an infection.
She was transferred two days later to the Indiana University Medical Centre, where surgeons also removed lymph nodes and infected skin up to her collarbone. "By the time she got here, the skin tissue was all pretty much completely dead," he said. "She was a very sick kid when she got here." Article here.

Dudes get in fight, bathroom plunger vs. sword

Police attributed a sword injury to an accident Sunday afternoon. According to a police report, two brothers who share an apartment were “play fighting” about 3 p.m. One brother had a sword and the other brother had a bathroom plunger.

One brother said he lunged with the plunger and it suctioned to the stomach of his brother, who was swinging the sword. In his efforts to remove his plunger from his brother’s stomach, he said he accidentally impaled himself on his brother’s sword. He was treated for a cut that was not life-threatening at a hospital emergency room. Article here.

Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Phillippe divorced?

Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have surprisingly separated after 7 years of marriage.
The couple's rep released a statement saying: "We are saddened to announce that Reese & Ryan have decided to formally separate. They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time."

Rumor has it... the couple broke up at Clint Eastwood's after party. It was not a pretty scene. Reese was packing away cosmos and chatting happily with just about anyone, but it was clear she was peeved about something.

The party took place in the rooftop penthouse suites of the Soho Grand Hotel. The couple went out on the roof terrace and had a knock-down, drag-out fight. It looked like something from "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" Article here.

Drunk dude has his 7-year-old drive him home?

Meet Alfredo Martinez. While the Nevada man should be saluted for knowing that he was too drunk to get behind the wheel last night, he probably should not have tabbed his seven-year-old son as his designated driver.

Martinez, 37, was arrested after Reno cops spotted his car weaving across lanes and stopping suddenly. When officers pulled over the vehicle before it could enter a highway, they found a plastered Martinez in the passenger seat and his son behind the wheel. Martinez, directed the boy to drive him home because he was too drunk to do it himself, cops said. Martinez is facing a felony child endangerment rap. Article here.

Coming soon... Rambo IV? Stallone is back!

In the planned movie, "Rambo IV: In the Serpent's Eye," the renegade Vietnam veteran played by Sylvester Stallone comes out of retirement in Bangkok to track down missionary aid workers who disappear in the jungles of military-ruled Myanmar.

Thailand's film chiefs have told the makers of the next Rambo sequel due to start filming in the southeast nation early next year to avoid excessive violence for fear of corrupting youth or damaging the environment.

Much of the movie will be filmed in national parks and Wanasiri said officials would be keeping a close eye on the movie-makers to ensure they did not damage their surroundings. "We have told them that no real guns or bombs are allowed in the national park where they will be filming. Thailand has a law banning that and they've told us they will just imitate it," she told Reuters. Article here.
