Two clowns are shot and killed in circus [don't laugh]

Two clowns were shot and killed by an unidentified gunman during their performance at a traveling circus in the eastern Colombian town of Cucuta, police said Wednesday.

The gunman burst into the Circo del Sol de Cali on Monday night and shot the clowns in front of an audience of 20 to 50 people, local police chief Jose Humberto Henao told Reuters.

One of the clowns was killed instantly, and the second died the next day in hospital. "The killings had nothing to do with the show the victims were performing at the time of the incident," Henao said in a telephone interview. "We are investigating the motive."

"The clowns came out to give their show, and then this guy came out shooting them," one audience member told local television. "It was terrible." Article here.

Teen girls skinny dip then 'poop & pee' in food at camp

20 teenage girls from an exclusive Sydney Catholic school are under investigation for skinny dipping in a river during a camp.

It is understood that on top of the late night dip in the Colo River, a number of girls are alleged to have urinated and defecated in a cooking pot - used for preparing meals - as a practical joke.

"We had behaviour that we weren't happy with and we're investigating so that I have the full truth rather than gossip or rumour or what people thought might have happened," Ms Freeman said.

Letters started arriving in parents' letter boxes yesterday informing them that an incident had occurred at the weekend, that the school was investigating and internal disciplinary action would follow.

The exact nature of the allegations, however, was not outlined in the letter. Article here.

Britney Spears attempts suicide and is back in rehab

TMZ has confirmed Britney Spears is back in rehab, AGAIN. The emergency custody hearing that Kevin Federline wanted has been cancelled because of the new development.

Sources tell TMZ Federline is concerned for Spears' welfare and wants her to get the help she is now seeking. We're also told this will be Spears' last chance -- if she leaves rehab before getting full treatment, Federline will immediately go to court seeking orders allowing him unquestioned full custody of the children.
We're told Spears showed up at Federline's house to see the children last night and he wouldn't let her in. Sources say the kids are now in the custody of Federline, and have been since last week. Also, terrified she'd lose custody of her sons, an out-of-control Britney Spears tried to kill herself TWICE in the hours after shaving her head, The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively from sources.

Hours after creating a media frenzy by shaving her head, sources say the troubled star tried to take her own life by walking into traffic, only to be rescued at the last second by her staff. But that wasn't the end of Britney's self-destructive impulses. A short time later she was rushed to a doctor after saying she was going to kill herself and then taking too many Xanax, say the sources. Source. Source.

No need to diet AND exercise to lose weight?

A new study debunks the widely held belief that diet plus exercise is the most effective way to lose weight. Researchers report that dieting alone is just as effective as dieting plus exercise.

"For weight loss to occur, an individual needs to maintain a difference between the number of calories they consume everyday and the number of calories they burn through metabolism and physical activity," Dr. Leanne Redman of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, explains in a press release.

"What we found was that it did not matter whether a reduction in calories was achieved through diet or burned everyday through exercise."

Thirty-five overweight but otherwise healthy adults -- 16 men and 19 women -- completed the 6-month study. Twelve were assigned to a diet-only group; they reduced their calorie intake by 25 percent. Twelve were assigned to diet plus exercise; they reduced their calorie intake by 12.5 percent and increased their exercise by 12.5 percent. The remaining 11 subjects made no significant diet or exercise changes.

Therefore, if the goal is purely shedding pounds, diet or exercise will work, according to this study. The study also found that exercise did little to tone specific areas of the body. Fat was reduced consistently across the whole body and not more in any one trouble spot.

This suggests that people are "genetically programmed for fat storage in a particular pattern and that this programming cannot be easily overcome by weight loss," the authors note in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. Article here.

Dude leads police on chase then found naked in hot tub

A high-speed pursuit ended when officers found the suspect naked in a hot tub in the backyard of a home.

The 28-year-old man was taken into custody without further incident. No one was injured during the pursuit or tracking of the suspect. The incident began when a patrol officer spotted a truck and ran the truck’s license plate and discovered that it had been reported stolen Tuesday in Olympia, police Lt. Dave Guttu said.

The officer followed the truck as other patrol officers responded to the area to help with a traffic stop. When the officer turned on his lights to stop the truck the driver took off. Officers followed the truck as it drove through Tacoma’s South End, along city streets and alleys. Speeds ranged from 50 to 85 mph during the 15-minute pursuit.

At one point, the truck driver made a U-turn and tried to hit one of the Lakewood patrol cars head-on.

The pursuit ended after a Lakewood officer had attempted a maneuver to stop the truck but instead of stopping the truck, the officer continued to rotate and struck a light pole, Guttu said. The officer was not injured.

The truck kept going. Moments later, it crashed head-on into a tree about midnight and the driver fled. Investigators suspect the driver failed to negotiate a turn when he was coming to a dead end, Guttu said.

Officers swarmed the area to search for the driver. A Tacoma police dog tracked the suspect’s scent as King County’s Guardian One helicopter searched from overhead. The helicopter crew spotted a hot tub cover askew in the backyard of a home. At the same time, the police dog was tracking in the same area, Guttu said.

The helicopter made a couple of passes and came back to the area of the hot tub. The crew noticed the cover was even more out of place. Meanwhile, a homeowner called to say voices could be heard in the backyard, Guttu said.

Officers got an address and went to the house. They found the truck driver naked in the hot tub. He’d been there for about 90 minutes and was arrested shortly after 2 a.m. The man’s clothes were found just outside of the hot tub. He had not been injured when the truck crashed, Guttu said. Officers found a bag of suspected meth and a switchblade knife in the hot tub with the man. Article here.

Two surgeons get into all-out fight during surgery

A routine appendix operation in Belgrade went badly wrong when two surgeons started fighting and stormed from the operating theater to settle their dispute outside.

Surgeon Spasoje Radulovic was operating when his colleague Dragan Vukanic entered and made a remark that started a quarrel, said the anesthesiologist on duty. "At one moment Vukanic pulled the ear of the operating doctor, slapped him in the face and walked out," she said.

Radulovic followed and an all-out fight ensued, resulting in bruises, a split lip, loose teeth and a fractured finger. The operation was completed successfully by the attending assistant doctor. Article here.
