Dude killed while trying to run over his g-friend on Valentine's Day

A man who tried to run over his girlfriend during a Valentine's Day argument was struck and killed by oncoming traffic in north Harris County as he ran from deputies across Interstate 45 late Thursday, authorities said.

Lara was being chased after he used a vehicle to try to run down his girlfriend at an apartment complex in the 15300 block of Ella Boulevard, deputies said.

The man made it across the freeway and deputies moved to the northbound side of the freeway. A cleaning woman at a nearby car dealership saw the man hiding behind cars in the lot. "As soon as he saw all the deputies coming, he started running back across the freeway and obviously did not make it," Harris County Sheriff's Department Sgt. S. Wolverton said.

A white Suburban hit the man first. The impact flung his sneakers off and threw him about 100 feet before he was struck a second time by a gray sports car. » Full article here

Woman finds razor blade inside Valentine's Day candy

Authorities issued a safety alert Thursday after a Valentine's Day lollipop was found with a blade-like piece of metal in it, and the store chain that sold it pulled similar items from its shelves nationwide.

Lisa Potter of Mulberry told authorities she noticed Wednesday night that metal was protruding from a lollipop in a bag of Pokemon Valentine Cards and Pops. The bag was purchased at a Dollar General store last week, she said.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office issued a safety advisory and the Dollar Store chain removed the product, sold in bags of 10, from its more than 8,000 stores nationwide. » Article here
